"Who knew walking was good for you!" - Alice Edwards
"It was definitely the most delicious Teams call I’ve had!"
Before the pandemic, the thought of going for a “nice walk” was not my idea of a fun afternoon. I would much rather have a nap after Christmas dinner than go on that family walk, but during the last year, what else was there to do?! I never thought I’d come to say this, but walking is actually good for you!
Whether it’s first thing when I get up and walk round the village with my coffee, go for a slightly longer walk along the canal at lunchtime, or the especially ‘exciting’ ones where we go slightly further afield (still staying local of course) and take snacks to make a day of it, I’ve actually started to enjoy it. It was especially lovely during the autumn time because I love seeing the trees changing colours, so my boyfriend and I would find forests and woodlands to walk round with a pumpkin spiced latte. I also loved it in the winter when it had snowed because although I have lived in my village my whole life, I had never seen the canal frozen!
I try to go for a walk every day, and even the days I put it off for hours, after having my favourite podcast on and getting away from the screen for even half an hour, I feel so much better and productive afterwards. I think I’ve worn my wellies more during the last 12 months than the accumulative amount over my whole life. As well as walking, I’ve also had more time to play my keyboard and learn new songs, and my friends and I arranged a virtual pizza making night where we all followed the recipe together and ate our creations – it was definitely the most delicious Teams call I’ve had!
